Microgrant Update: Heliya Badakhshan

Earlier this year, Heliya Badakhshan was one of four artists awarded a Microgrant, receiving up to £500 to develop her practice & increase public access & engagement with her work.

Here, Heliya explains how you can get involved and learn how to 'cast' objects during Open Studios which takes place 18-20 November 2016.

I will be holding a casting workshop 11am - 4pm, Sunday 20th November during Open Studios, for visitors to cast objects and learn about the casting process.

There will be a pre-made mould ready for demonstration purposes and visitors will be provided with the materials necessary to cast simple objects, or people can bring their own objects if they wish (they need to be simple, one part and small!)

The process can take between 30 minutes to an hour and the final object can be taken away once it has hardened. Visitors can also be provided clay to model if they wish to spend extra time making an object. No previous experience is needed and I will be there step by step to help.

The casting workshop will mark the end of my Microgrant. This project has enabled me to continue making artworks after graduating. Through the Microgrant, I’ve been able to rent a studio and experiment with clay. The Microgrant was very helpful for me and I will continue to develop more work. I’ve met artists from Yorkshire Artspace and I hope to keep these new relationships going in coming years.
