Yorkshire Artspace provides studio space for around 170 artists and makers across two sites in Sheffield city centre. We are a centre of excellence for the support of artists and makers, providing good quality, affordable studio space and delivering a professional development programme which offers exhibition opportunities, access to training and subsidised Starter Studios. We are committed to creating opportunities for artists and artistic practices to develop, to raising artists’ profiles, developing audiences for their work and supporting individuals to develop their own talent and engagement with visual art.
With a newly appointed Director and an agenda for change, we are seeking additional charity trustees, ideally based in Sheffield or the surrounding region, to work with the Director, staff team and membership to steer the strategic direction and governance of the charity as we re-set and focus on the future.
The Board is required to meet four times a year with usual hours in the early evening. Additional time is needed for interim and sub-committee meetings. We also ask trustees to attend exhibition openings and public events, share their expertise with members if appropriate and act as ambassadors for Yorkshire Artspace.
You will be enthusiastic about the visual arts, fine or applied art, and interested in the role artists and studio provision can play in the cultural ecosystem of a city, region or society. You will care about the quality of the experience that artists receive when part of Yorkshire Artspace. You should be able to commit yourself for a period of 3-4 years.
We are especially interested in hearing from people with ability, knowledge and expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Premises management, including environmental sustainability
Strategic development: Artistic practice and experience
Strategic development: Higher and Further Education
Strategic development: Learning, participation and inclusion
Strategic development: Profile raising and communication
Strategic development: Commercial and Income generation
Local governance, Business sector and City leadership
Previous experience of Board membership is not essential and induction and training will be provided. We want to support a diverse and inclusive board, as well as applicants who are interested in their first trusteeship.
