Mike Scown works primarily in stoneware, with an emphasis on tableware thrown on the wheel and glazed in a simple feldspar crackle, gas-fired to bring out natural earth tones from the iron-rich clay. Exploration of ceramic materials and processes is central to his work, with a focus on glaze chemistry and firing techniques. He offers tuition on an individual or group basis in a variety of subjects including throwing, Raku firing, and glaze chemistry.
