Lucy Vann studied at Manchester School of Art and The Royal College of Art. Working in video, writing, performance and sound, her practice is concerned with selfhood, interaction and emotion, and explores how identity is performed and communicated. She uses found and quickly filmed footage, incidental language and staging of the self to camera to draw attention to and reconfigure familiar material.
Referencing popular culture, Lucy works with edited fragments of music videos, film, television, karaoke, dreams, social media, and self-help books. She is interested in mistakes, slippages and failed attempts at communication and performance, playing with humour and sentimentality to explore what it means to authentically present the self in daily life.
