The Workings is a publication series that aims to reveal the processes of making and thinking involved in creating artworks, offering a rare glimpse under the hood at the mechanics of artistic production. It accompanies our residency programme Testing Ground, with each artist-in-residence receiving a publication about their work.

Each edition features a short essay by writers from across the UK, alongside photography documenting the developing work at critical stages. The publications also include extracts from the artists' personal notes, giving an insight into what they were thinking about during their residency.
