Testing Ground is our residency programme at Exchange Place Studios, intended to provide an intensive period of creative experimentation for an artist based in Sheffield. Our artist-in-residence for this special edition, delivered in partnership with the Working Class Creatives Database, is Thomas Lee Griffiths, an artist interested in the tensions between public and private spaces.
Their work draws attention to the overlooked, highlighting hidden elements of working-class culture and queer identity. They work with wood, metal and casting processes, often using low-cost and recycled materials.
Throughout April, the gallery will be used as a working studio space for Thomas to explore ideas around boundaries in our public spaces and personal lives. Thomas is interested in barbed wire as a material that is both dangerous and seductive, aggressive and defensive, rigid and flowing.
Wednesday 10, 17 & 24 April, 12-4pm
Drop in for an opportunity to meet Thomas and engage with his developing works-in-progress.
