Space Available: Ceramic Starter Studio

While our Starter Studio programme is currently paused, we have some studio space available in our Ceramic Starter Studio alongside current residents Fernanda Cortes, Jenny Chan and Cristina Cerulli. As the programme itself is not currently active, this is an offer of access to space, equipment and facilities for a one year period between October 2021 and September 2022.

The cost of this space is £120 per month, and includes:

  • 24/7 access to the shared studio facility (within which you will have two workbenches and a set of drying shelves for your individual use);
  • Access to shared equipment including three electric kilns, throwing wheel and extruder;
  • Technical support from our Kiln Technician;
  • Artist profile on the Yorkshire Artspace website.

While we manage the Starter Studio, its day-to-day operation is largely self-directed by those who use it. You will therefore need to be able to work independently and have experience working with ceramics. We provide two hours of technical support per month, delivered by our Kiln Technician, who will also carry out any maintenance or repair work the kilns require. Please note you will be responsible for all aspects of firing your work and will be required to complete a kiln induction prior to use (£45).

The ideal candidate will be able to work peacefully in a shared environment and contribute to a studio culture that is mutually respectful.

Please email Programme Producer Rachael Dodd to indicate your interest by 31st July 2021. Your letter of interest should detail: your practice, process and techniques; your ceramic knowledge and experience; why you wish to work in the studio; and how this opportunity will benefit your development as an artist or maker.

Please also include a CV, images of your work and any relevant web or social media links.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a selection panel meeting on Wednesday 4th August. Visits to see the space and facilites can be arranged prior to application please email to request.

For any other queries in the meantime, please contact Rachael Dodd:
