Eleven Yorkshire Artspace ceramicists unite this December to transform our Persistence Works gallery into a Seasonal Ceramics Shop. Disrupted by COVID-19 but pressing on, the shop will be open for three consecutive weekends and features a range of work from established artists as well as recent graduates from our Starter Studio for Ceramicists.
Inspired by the ethos 'Buy Handmade this Christmas', the aim of the shop is to help visitors to find bespoke ceramic gifts to share at a holiday season where personal touches will be more important than ever.
It will also be an important time for the artists involved, for many of whom this shop will represent their first real selling opportunity of a year that has been roadblocked by the pandemic. By self-isolating and shutting down to keep everyone safe, artists and makers have been hit hard by loss of income.
"We have all suffered financially as a result of coronavirus because exhibitions and fairs have been cancelled and galleries closed," said group member Penny Withers. "The exercise of coming together to plan and realise an event has provided much needed stimulation, affirmation of our individual practices and hopefully a financial boost."
