This year, four artists have been awarded a Yorkshire Artspace Microgrant, receiving up to £500 to develop their practice & increase public access & engagement with their work.
Heliya Badakshan is one of the recipients of a 2016 Microgrant, which form part of the city-wide Year of Making celebrations aiming to promote Sheffield as a city of makers.
Heliya recently held a casting workshop here at Yokshire Artspace, and invited people to cast small objects in clay.
She used the micogrant bursary to buy materials and gain skills to forge a new way of working. She says of the project:
'I have started working and experimenting with clay, which is a material I am continuing to use. It was great that I could also hold a casting workshop on the open day. I have started working with a new material that I would not have otherwise have been able to do, and in the process, I have met new people and made new connections.'
Heliya is comtinuing to work with clay. You can keep up to date with Heliya's work via her website.
