MADE NORTH is delighted to have worked in partnership with Yorkshire Artspace on a ceramic commission for makers on the Starter Studio Programme for Ceramicists.
The commission provided two Starter Studio participants Mike Scown and Victoria Dawes with the opportunity to make new work in response to the MADE NORTH Northern Industrial Project.
The Northern Industrial Project explores creating a range of affordable objects, furniture and fashion that convey a sense of northern-ness from the north of England. This can be through a choice of materials or way of manufacture. MADE NORTH is looking to establish a collection of 10 pieces of furniture, objects, ceramics and fashion that explores northern identity through making and promoting a return to local/regional production.
At the heart of the project is a desire to have products designed, made and purchased in close proximity, promoting and creating new networks and markets for designers and local manufacturers.
Mike and Victoria’s commissions can be seen in their exhibition at MADE NORTH Gallery from Saturday 9th July to Saturday 27th August you can also hear the makers talk about their work at the exhibition’s Private View on Thursday 14th July. 6.30-8.30pm.
