The Kiln Yard is a new gas kiln facility based at our Persistence Works studio complex in the heart of Sheffield. Featuring two gas-fired kilns, a sheltered outdoor workspace and garden, the facilities are available to hire by professional ceramicists on a solo or shared basis. Firings are supported by dedicated Kiln Technicians to ensure safe and knowledgeable operation of the kilns.

Kilns are available to hire as a whole to an individual, group or business or via our managed shared firings (see below). Firings are managed by our Kiln Technicians including loading, firing and unpacking all you have to do is drop-off items to be fired and collect them when they're done. The whole firing cycle typically takes five days, and the usual schedule for firings will involve packing on Monday, firing on Tuesday, cooling Wednesday and unpacking on Thursday.
We will try our hardest to accommodate your prefered firing date so please download and read our Hire Agreement and Hire Rates documents below fully before applying to hire and state your prefered firing date.
We currently have the following dates scheduled in for 2025 for shared firings:
SHARED FIRING COST: £60 /unit of space. The unit of space is 18" x 20" (equivalent to a large kiln shelf) x 11" high. Multiple units can be purchased if you need more space. Making this a very affordable way of having your work reduction fired in a gas kiln.
BOOK SHARED FIRING: please email rachael@artspace.org.uk and indicate how much space you want. You will then be sent an invoice and payment in full will be due prior to the firing. Further dates may be added throughout year if demand is high so please do get in touch if you are interested.
To apply for a firing, please complete the Kiln Yard Booking Form. You must read the Hire Agreement and Hire Rates documents carefully before submitting your booking. One of our Kiln Yard team will respond as soon as possible to confirm your booking.
If you're interested in finding out more about the Kiln Yard, come along to one of our free open days. The open days are a great way to check out the kilns, meet the staff and chat to the technicians. As well as an opportunity to ask any burning questions, there will also be free ceramic activities.
