Getting creative at Yorkshire Artspace

Well, Spring is just about here - a time for new beginnings and new growth, and we're feeling the urge to try smething new. Quite a few of our artists here offer classes so  if you've always fancied having a go at throwing your own pots, weaving a scarf or learning some woodwork skills, now's your chance! Classes at Yorkshire Artspace have the added benefit of being held in artists' studios. Wonderful, calm, magical and creative places in themseles where we wouldn't mind passing a Saturday afternoon getting to grips with a new skill. Jane Huws teaches her beautiful hand loom weaving at her Exchange Place studio as well as at All Saints (Ecclesall) Church Hall. You can make your own beautiful scarf or other fabric samples. To find out more, and to book onto one of her courses, go to her website here.

Ceramics

Penny Withers teaches ceramics classes at Persistence Works. Her classes currently have a waiting list but check out her website here and get in touch with Penny if you'd like to be added to the list. Check out Penny's website to see more of her beautiful ceramic work. 

Brian Holland has been running ceramics classes at Yorkshire Artspace for more than ten years. His classes run on Thursdays 6-9pm, Fridays 9.30am-12.30pm, Saturdays 10.30-1.30pm. Get in touch with Brian to find out more.

Anna Mercedes Wear holds weekly Wednesday morning handbuilding classes. Booking in blocks of 4 weeks at £60.00 (£15p/session) Spaces are limited so booking is essential. For more information and/or to secure your place contact Anna.  Classes are held in Anna's studio at Manor Oaks. She can teach you a variety of hand building and modelling techniques, work from your own ideas or follow structured projects, demonstrations and 1:1 tuition in small classes. No experience necessary, beginners and advanced welcome. 

Krishna Alageswaran teaches ceramics at Exchange Place studios. His lessons are on Fridays 2pm-4.30pm ad Saturday 10am-12.30pm. They cost £12 per session or £60 for a 6 week course. Gind out more by viiting Krishna's website. Get in touch with Krishna for more information.

Emilie Taylor and Victoria Dawes are offering a new course in Slipware ceramics. This will take place on 23rd and 30th May - the artists will demonstrate their work and teach you the skills to make your own piece of pottery. Please contact Victoria in order to book your place. 

Woodwork

Want to make a chair, a bush knife, spoons or a cabinet? Get in touch with Henk Littlewood at Exchange Place, who teaches introduction to woodwork courses on Saturday afternoons. Check out his website to find out more. Introductory courses: £20.00 per person - Saturday afternoons. Intermediate and advanced lessons weekday evenings by arrangement (£30 per two hour tuition).  

Drawing and Painting

Russ Young teaches drawing, but not as we know it! Check his website here for more details about his inventive and creative classes. Tim Rose runs weekly life drawing sessions in his studio, though you'd better be quick if you fancy taking part as these sessions are almost full. He also runs a monthly portrait/ life drawing day on the last Saturday of the month. These run 10am-4.30pm and cost £30.
