Artists at Exchange Place Studios are keen to get people of all ages involved in the arts, and will be running some low cost ‘taster’ workshops over the Bank holiday and following weekend for families and children to create art together. Artist Lizzy Alageswaran, who has a studio in the building said ‘Making things with your hands is absorbing and fun and being creative is proven to make people happier – so we want everyone to have a go!’ The workshops are in everything from perfume making to mosaics and are being offered by artists involved in the ‘Transitions’ exhibition at Exchange Place Studios, which is coinciding with the Open Up Sheffield! open studio event.
Jewellery and metal-work artist Alison Riggott is enthusiastic about people taking part in the arts. ‘We really wanted to share how we create work and encourage people of all ages to make their own. There are over 70 artists working in this building - we really enjoy working together, and we’re looking forward to welcoming people to our building.’ The workshops are all low cost - artists are just charging for the materials so people can have a go without it being too much of a risk. The workshops are supported by Yorkshire Artspace.
