Castlegate Festival 2024

Sunday 15 September 2024
10am–4pm
Pollen Market, Castlegate, S3 8LB
Free, everyone welcome

We are pleased to be partnering with Pollen Market to provide a free workshop with artist Lianne Mellor as part of Castlegate Festival 2024, funded by Sheffield City Council and Sheffield BID.

Join us on Castlegate for drop-in sessions where Lianne will guide you through the Japanese art of Tatakizome or 'flower pounding'. Tatakizome uses plants to create prints on fabric or thick paper by hammering leaves and flowers onto the material. The word 'tataki' means hammering, and 'zome' means dye, so the name translates to "hammering-dye" in Japanese. We will provide free card and fabric for you to try out the technique, and if you love the results and want to go one step further, you can also purchase a Pollen Market tote bag and customise it using Tatakizome.

In addition to the workshop with Lianne, there are lots more activities to get involved in as part of Castlegate Festival, including shopping and food at Pollen Market (a floral feast showcasing plants, flowers and crafts), live entertainment from Langsett Dance Orchestra, a climbing wall, and talks about river daylighting. Suitable for all the family. Click here for the full information about Castlegate Festival.
