We are delighted to announce our ceramics commission 'All Fired Up' has been awarded to one of our starter holders here at Yorkshire Artspace. Becca Brown is already busy with the commission, which is a partnership between Yorkshire Artspace, South Yorkshire Housing Association (SYHA), Museums Sheffield and Potclays Limited.
Becca will be working with older SYHA customers, who are all supported to 'Live Well' at home, and making a ceramic book for the commission. The book will focus on stories shared by the SYHA customers. On completion, one copy of the book will enter Museums Sheffield permanent collection and be displayed at Millennium Galleries, and framed pages realting to individual SYHA customers will be given away for paticipants to keep. We are looking forward to the pieces developing and to seeing the completed work, which will be on display from July. Becca is delighted to have been appointed for the commission:
“I'm really looking forward to working on the 'All Fired Up' commission and working with customers from the Live Well at Home scheme. I’m especially looking forward to working with some elderly folk in their homes and sharing their stories from days gone by as well as setting up some clay activities with residents. The support from Potclays Ltd is a fantastic help and means it’s possible to try out some new methods of working with some new materials.”
Becca will be hosting a free lunchtime talk about this commission in Millennium Galleries later in July, we will share more details as they become available.
Our ceramic Starter Studio programme is now open to applications with a closing deadline of 29th April 2019. Find out more here.
