We were really pleased to be able to continue our collaboration with Age UK Sheffield following the taster workshops we did with their members last year. This year we offered a tour of our new Exchange Place Studios in Castlegate; an opportunity to meet some of the artists and makers in their studio, see their work, hear what inspires them and try their hand at mosaic making too.
The tour was advertised via The Club Members and 9 people booked to come and spend 2 hours with us on last month.
Sylivia Plews from Age UK said of the day:
"Thank you so much for organising the tour of Yorkshire Art Space on Tuesday. I must admit I am not at all creative and went along for a nosey and was blown away! The four artists we visited were all very friendly, thoughtful and inspiring and eager to talk about their current projects. The variety and standard of work we saw was superb, who can forget a life sized papier mache elephant, literally in the room. The beautiful bridal bouquets made from old pieces of jewellery and the sweet pencil drawings of mice alongside ink drawings on onion skins. I am looking forward to seeing the finished sculpture in wood representing John Ruskin's mind in the Millenium Galleries shortly. What an experience.
Thanks to the following artists who gave their time: Gill Alderson, onion skin drawings, Henk Littlewood, woodworker and sculptor of Ruskins Mind, Debbie Carlisle, bridalware and Lizzy Alegswaran who's elephant was in the room and led the mosaic session.
We hope to collaborate again with Age UK Sheffield in the near future.
