During July to September 2014 we have been running creative taster sessions in collaboration with Age UK Sheffield to see if a cultural offer for their membership would be well received. Ultimately helping to support their membership to tackle feelings of isolation and loneliness. The overwhelming feedback from those who took part was very positive indeed and the sessions were lively and full of chatter and laughter.
Studio Holders at Exchange Place Jane Huws delivered a basic weaving workshop and Donna Brewins took people through a sensory watercolour painting session. Alex Blakey, based in Huddersfield led a fused glass jewellery session.
For some the sessions ignited a previously unknown interest, others a hidden talent. All who took part enjoyed trying their hand at something new and learning and talking with the artists. So with lots of requests for more Age UK Sheffield will be approaching the artists who very generously contributed their time and resources for free to work with them to deliver sessions on a paid basis. And they want to continue to work in partnership with Yorkshire Artspace to extend the cultural offer within their service. So watch this space for future developments and opportunities.
