Starter Studio Programme
Deadline 30th July 2010
Hey there! .... Are you ambitious? Talented? Dedicated? .... And in need of space and facilities, mentor & technical support, opportunities to show your work? We are currently recruiting for our 3 starter studio programmes for emerging silversmiths, ceramicists and visual artists who want to develop their socially engaged practice.
The programmes are designed to help artists who are at an early career stage to develop their skills and creative enterprises in a supportive environment. The programme includes shared workspace, access to equipment, technical and mentoring business advice, commission and exhibition opportunities.
The Starter Studio Programme for Designer Silversmiths has been running since 2002 and has supported the professional and skills development of 15 silversmiths to date. This programme is supported with financial contributions from The Sheffield Assay Office and Sheffield Church Burgesses Educational Foundation.
The Starter Studio Programme for Ceramicists will be launched in October 2010 at our brand new eco-designed studios at Manor Oaks. The programme has received financial support from Arts Council England - Yorkshire and The Foyle Foundation.
The Starter Studio Programme for Engaged Practice will also be launched in October 2011 and housed in temporary accommodation in the Sheffield neighbourhood of Parson Cross where, from Summer 2011, we will be opening our brand new Knutton Road studios. The programme has received financial support from The Paul Hamlyn Foundation and Arts Council England - Yorkshire.

Silversmithing Skills Workshops
On the weekend of 7th and 8th November we ran a handraising skills workshop, lead by Cameron Maxfield. The course was a great success and everyone who took part managed to create a bowl from the flat silver disk we had provided them with at the start of this two day workshop. It is hoped that we will run another skills workshop next year lead by another established silversmith. If you are interested in taking part in any of our silvermithing skills workshops we will be running next year, please email mir@artspace.org.uk with your name and telephone number and we’ll keep you in the loop.
