Installation in progress...Robert Casselton Clark's art work at Persistence Works.
I am delighted to announce that after years of being fairly unattractive from the front, we are currently installing a stunning new art work by Robert Casselton Clark at Persistence Works. Over 30m long, the 27 panels show sculptural forms and text resulting from a very successful residency that Robert completed at Persistence Works last year, funded by Arts Council England, Yorkshire through the G4A fund. This seems like a good opportunity to thank all those involved for their dogged determination in funding, creating, producing and installing the work. We’re hoping to have images of the whole façade in our next e-newsletter. For details of the work, please see the press release on our website.

Exhibitions and Events

Hybrid Art and Science Exhibition This show brings together the often polarised opposing ‘disciplines’ of art and science. There are various ways of perceiving consciousness ranging from the subjective to the objective. In order to be able to process the enormous amount of knowledge that has accumulated over the centuries, it has become necessary to split information into different disciplines. Art Sheffield 2010
Art Sheffield 2010 Life: A User's Manual is the fifth event, organised by Sheffield Contemporary Art Forum, to take place since 2001 and takes the form of a single exhibition, spread across the city's gallery spaces: Yorkshire Artspace: Persistence Works, Graves Gallery, Millennium Gallery, S1 Artspace, Site Gallery, Sheffield Institute of Arts Gallery, other venues and the public realm. The event will take place between 6th March and 30th April 2010 and the artist showing her work at Yorkshire Artspace is Rotterdam based Rachel Koolen.
Preview of Rachel Koolen's Work at Yorkshire Artspace Friday 5th March 7-9 pm “In her work Rachel Koolen brings into play and confronts administrative society. She engages with bureaucratic structures, the residue of modernism sometimes found within them (such as prefab design structures) and finds a certain elegance in their attempts to implement and make concrete 'ideologically' driven policies.
For Art Sheffield 2010 she is showing work that takes this subject matter to act like a chameleon in the reception area of Yorkshire Artspace; speaking the rational, dry language that she recognises as her own and simultaneously evoking a specific humour”.
