Residency Programme

Since 2005 Yorkshire Artspace has delivered an ambitious Residency Programme, offering selected artists access to space, time and money in order to develop their ideas and create a new body of work.

We work collaboratively with partner organisations to deliver a range of complementary activities which increase public access to and community engagement with the arts, while providing professional development for resident artists.

The Residency Programme focuses on placing artists in the heart of the communities which are linked to our studio sites, encouraging artists to directly respond to location over the course of a year. The 2015/16 residency was awarded to Paul Evans who worked in the Castlegate area of Sheffield, close to Exchange Place Studios. Also in this year in partnership with Sheffeild City Council we appointed arts collective Glasball who worked with the good people of Castlegate to produce an artwork for Castlegate. In 2016/17 as part of Sheffeilds Year of Making and with generous support from Julie MacDonald High Sheriff for South Yorkshire we placed artist Gillian Brent in residence at Manor Lodge Primary School to work with pupils to create a permanent artwork for the school.

We are always seeking new and interesting partners to collaborate with so please email if you’d like to discuss this further.

Please sign up for our e-newsletter to receive updates on our activities and opportunities, by clicking on the 'Contact Info’ bar at the bottom of the page. Please note that residencies are not a rolling programme, we only are only open for applications when a residency project is in place, and this will be advertised on our website. We do not accept or process speculative applications.
