Fancy getting creative in 2018? Lots of our artists hold classes here at Yorkshire Artspace, giving you the opportunity to have a go at weaving, ceramics, metalwork, mosaic and more. Classes are available as one offs or as part of a longer series, for children, adults, experts and total novices. Take a look at the list below and see if there is something here to help get you started on a creative path in 2018.
Classes take place in individual artist studios. All studios are warm and cosy and are accessible, though please check with the artist if you have particular access requirements. Both Persistence Works and Exchange Place Studios are 5 minutes walk from Sheffield train station and close to the city centre. Alex runs throwing classes from his large ground floor studio. There is a maximum of 4 to a class so there is a lot of one to one time. Regular classes are 2.5 hrs per week for 6 weeks at £180. Upcoming classes:
Andy offers mosaic making courses from his wonderful studio at Persistence Works.
Andrew offers kids parties as well as classes, held on weekends as well as during school holidays. 10am-2pm. The cost is £20 per head which includes materials. Each participant comes away with their own decorated ‘round.’
This class also makes a great adult party or craft club idea. You are welcome to bring your own refreshments.

Brian runs classes on all aspects of ceramics. Sessions are all 3 hours in duration.
Beginners and more experienced clay workers are welcome.
Silversmith Charlotte Tollyfield is offering a range of classes for adults that cover a variety of silversmithing techniques, to suit all abilities, which will teach you the skills to create your own piece to take home. The course of your choice can be arranged on dates to suit you, with a maximum of two people per course booking.
Anyone can join the mosaic classes, all abilities welcome. Come and try this fascinating art using professional materials and techniques which Coralie has developed with over 20 years experience.

Jason runs carving classes for children and adults, beginners and advanced level. Perhaps you want to make some fireside artwork, a relief panel artwork for your wall, a bench, table or stool top or even a totem / garden sculpture. Jason’s carving classes are running monthly in 2018, please check his website for dates, times and prices.
For beginners, the introduction to wood carving covering basic techniques will get you started with the skills you need. Working to a plan or carving intuitively to explore the wood will create an artwork for your home. You will be working with a billet of hardwood and a variety of carving tools.
Make your own glass beads by melting coloured rods of glass in an open flame, using a technique called 'lampworking'. The sessions are one-to-one and include use of all tools and materials. Your beads will be available to collect after 24hrs or posted to you free of charge after the class. If you would like the beads to made into a bracelet, Julia can do this for you at no extra cost. Classes usually run from 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm Mon to Fri but can run sessions other times including evenings and weekends.

Join one of Jane’s small groups and learn how to make scarves, fabric for bags, cushion covers, mats and belts using peg looms, rigid heddles and inkle looms.

Anna runs regular one day hand-building workshops from her studio, these include making figures, foxes, cats, hares, pots and a whole lot more. They are great fun and enable the student to make, decorate and finish a piece in a day.
